"American Masala" by Suvir Saran

When you see the recipes in this book, you will want to eat the pages. Suvir is a restaurateur and cookbook author with roots in India and a palate from living in America. His first book, "Indian Home Cooking" was an inspiration for home cooks to explore the cuisine of India. But this latest book "American Masala" is a combination that results in food that is both traditional Indian and contemporary American. By using different spices such as cumin, coriander, cardamom and curry leaves, he is able to liven up the old standbys that we all grew up eating. Some of the stand out dishes are meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and fried chicken masala. The recipes are simple and use staples found in every supermarket. From snacks to starters and on to dinner, the Indian influence brightens all the flavors in the dishes.
