Ravenswood
2004 Zinfandel Lodi Old Vine
Sonoma, California

Ravenswood has been producing single vineyard, complex and very interesting wines for many years. The mantra of “No Wimpy Wines” is their signature statement. With each vintage, winemaker Joel Peterson crafts his juicy beauties from a vast source of growers whose fruit produces a unique fingerprint year after year. Generally these wines are priced in the $30.00 range and some of the best examples are the Zinfandels from Belloni, Teldeschi and Dickerson. My current pick is a more modestly priced wine from Ravenswood that exhibits a wild flavor profile of juicy huckleberries, ripe plums and dried cherries, with an undertone of anise. The grapes are from Lodi and are produced from vines that have concentrated fruit. Delicious to drink with bar-b-qued summer fare, to sip by itself to remind you how much you enjoy red wine or to enjoy with tomato based pasta. This represents a great value in fun wine drinking.
