2006 Marsanne
Purisima Mountain Vineyard
Santa Ynez Valley

Marsanne may not be a household name in grape varietals. This lovely white wine hails from the Northern Rhone Valley, and winemaker Steven Beckmen treats it with the utmost respect. In addition to the Marsanne grapes, Steven has added 20% Roussanne for additional complexity. When well-made as this is, it exhibits melon and mineral flavors, and very friendly honeysuckle essence in the mouth. There is not a lot of tannic or acidic bites, which lends the wine to a myriad of food affinities such as roast poultry, fish and shellfish, tarts and quiches. This beauty can go where many over-oaked wines can’t. Perfectly balanced and lovely to drink now, it is very hard not to open all of your bottles at once. This is a winner that will amaze you and your friends.
