EDITION IV: Family, Holidays, Love, & Celebration
The holidays bring out a warm nostalgia from my childhood. It’s a magical time to be out of school, excited for holiday decorations, extended family gatherings and, most of all, cooking. The celebration of decorating, family gatherings, and the magical holiday spirit light up a child’s eyes.
My family would always gather at my grandmother Gladys’ beautiful and welcoming home, and cook together in her kitchen.
Cooking was a craft, brought to life with thoughtful, loving intention. The holiday meals, beginning with Thanksgiving, were always showstoppers, featuring amazingly delicious and soulful southern cuisine, crafted with such seeming ease by real cooks who knew deep flavors. I learned my craft of extracting deep authentic flavor from real whole foods in this kitchen.
Like many of us, my childhood was quite challenging at times. But these meals are my most treasured memories of love and family. In that kitchen, everyone’s differences melted away, replaced with the communal feeling of contribution and creation.
Today, I am exceptionally lucky to live a life of family, love, and celebration with my Dry Farm Wines Family. We live and act daily with the intention of commitment to each other in every way thinkable. This is always entertainingly present around the kitchen and dinner table, where we cook, laugh, eat, and drink together, indulging our obsession with friendship and taste.
We have a very special family bond. It is surprising to many people, but we cook family meals together somewhere between 30-50 times a year in Napa Valley. We consider it a central part of our culture. Further, even when we travel (whether for sourcing more Pure Natural Wines or for pouring them at health events), we dine together hundreds more times! Yes, hundreds. When we travel, we have every evening meal together. I write that with such a warm heart. I am so grateful to share my life with such loving and committed friends.
Every day, and especially the holiday season, we celebrate with you. It is very special for us to know and marvel that this holiday season, a few hundred thousand people will raise their glasses in celebration of love, and their glasses will be filled with Dry Farm Wines. It is hard to express the depth of gratitude we feel to experience this with you. Not a day goes by that we do not feel and express to each other how deeply grateful we are for this privilege to serve you the purest, best Natural Wines grown in the world.
Happy holidays to all and know that our hearts are filled with love as we celebrate this warm and special time of the year with you.
With love and gratitude,
Todd
